According to the Ministry of environmental protection, regional planning and construction, in first six months use of The Regulation of ampties and packing waste it has collected 43.395 tons of packing waste.
Director of The Fund for environmental protection and energetics Vinko Mladineo said that Austrian and Swedish institutions and experts have spoken well about Croatias very fast establishing system of managing with packing waste, which did not succeed to any other European country.
Mladineo also said that Croatian citizens have been totally accepted the Regulation and result of it, is a 20-30 per cent less waste in environment. The system is established and it is working without difficulties. Namely, most of the country regions have officially invited tenders for concessions and issued concessions to collectors of packing waste. If that is not a case, there are authorized collectors who are under contract with Fund. The Ministry issued concessions to recycling companies also.
It is important to underline that Croatian citizens for years have been throwing about 15.000 tons of plastic ampties in environment, the production of which cost about EUR 15 millions. Today, the production of those plastic ampties cost much more because of rise in prices of oil. The waste had to be discarded, which additionally cost Croatia few million EUR. Croatia thus wasted about EUR 20 million per year, if damage for environment is not counted.
