Seit 1999 wird das Arsenal mit seinen Hallen aus dem 16. Jahrhundert von der Biennale als Ausstellungsfläche genutzt. Heuer sind in den ehemaligen Schiffswerften von Venedig unter anderem Arbeiten von Dieter Roth, Charles Ray, Matthew Monahan, Pamela Rosenkranz, Simon Denny, Otto Piene und Paweł Althamer zu sehen.
