Timber harvested due to damage caused by bark beetle, storm, snow or the like accounted for 86% of the total quantity felled. Approximately 768,000 cubic meters of timber was damaged by bark beetle, the second highest figure since 2005. This development was only to be expected after the storms, Kyrill, Paula and Emma. Furthermore, 804,000 cubic meters of windthrow was also shipped out, although a significant proportion of this resulted from the dismantling of the storage sites and reprocessing of residues from the previous year. Measures to combat beetles, including infestations of trees, were also continued intensively in fiscal 2009.
