Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR), a part of the Austrian Erste Bank group, is the first banking institution in Romania to obtain the International Certification for the Information Security Management System – ISO/IEC 27001: 2005, from the British Standards Institution (BSI).

BCR was certified for its cards issuing and accepting activity, chosen particularly for the large number of issued cards – over 2.2 million active cards – and, implicitly for the corresponding information. In the future, the bank also intends to initiate the certifying procedures for other performed activities.

“This certification confirms the special interest BCR has in ensuring the security of managed information and data. The certification enables safety, confidentiality, integrity and availability to our customers’ relationship. As leader of the Romanian banking system, it was our duty to be the first implementing an information security management system, to be a pathfinder in this field as well, in Romania”, stated Lucian Dumitriu, Executive Manager of the Protection and Security Unit of BCR.

BCR now owns an integrated management system, at European standard, the bank being certified for its information security management, total quality management and labour security management.
