Austrian Airlines wants to increase its market share in Romania by around 2 per cent this year, which would be the same increase as the one registered in 2006. The market share of the Austrian carrier on the local market of regular flights is currently around 8 per cent, company representatives told Ziarul Financiar.

"We hold 8 per cent of the BSP market," said Heinrich Vystoupil, the general manager of Austrian Airlines for Romania and Moldova.

"Because the domestic air transportation market will become increasingly fragmented as more new air companies begin to enter, we intend to increase our market share by 1-2 per cent this year," said Heinrich Vystoupil.

Austrian Airlines currently has the largest coverage of the Romanian market among the foreign air carriers, operating 56 flights per week to Vienna from various Romanian cities. It operates from Bucharest, Timisoara, Cluj, Sibiu and Iasi, the Cluj route in a partnership with Romanian flag carrier Tarom.
