Palfinger unveiled a EUR 4 million modernisation programme for its manufacturing facility in Cherven Bryag, northern Bulgaria, whose end result would be a 25-per-cent capacity boost, the Austrian lifting, loading and handling systems producer said on Wednesday.
Valeri Nikolov, administrative director at the Bulgarian unit, said the bulk of the investment will be funneled into new equipment for production of cranes catering to the construction, logging and food industries.
On programme completion, the plant in Cherven Bryag will focus on lifting systems manufacture. The remaining activities, among which systems assembly, are scheduled for gradual relocation to Palfingers manufacturing facilities in Austria, Germany and France, Nikolov added.
At present, the Cherven Bryag-based plant keeps 475 staff on the payroll. Palfinger is the employer of another 300 employees in a pool of locations in south-eastern Bulgaria. Production workshops near the town of Yambol deal with the manufacture of hydrocylinders.
