The Bucharest city hall will soon announce the winner of the tender for the city traffic management project, worth EUR 20.5 million.
Three consortia have submitted bids: Imtech together with Peek & Delcan, Swarco together with UTI International and Siemens Germany along with Siemens Austria. Two other consortia, made of Trafic S.A. along with Marac Electronics and Sagem Communications along with Ineo Sytrans and Siemens Austria, have also qualified for the final stage but didnt submit bids.
"This project is a start, a pilot project that will improve public, as well as private passenger transportation," said Gheorghe Udriste, manager of the Transportation, Road and Traffic Safety Department of the City Hall.
The funds will come from two sources: EUR 3.5 million from the municipality, while EUR 17 million from a EBRD cofinancing.
The Bucharest City Hall is going to invest the EUR 20 million to draw up a traffic management project related to the setting up of a network of 100 computer-controlled traffic lights with the help of which traffic can be monitored in real time. The goals are traffic fluidisation, higher safety and reduction of polluting gas emissions by vehicles.
The winner of teh tender will have to install GPS devices on buses and trolleybuses, which will allow their position to be monitored in real time by a control centre, to be built in the Drumul Taberei district.
