Austrias VA TECH Hydro has begun with rehabilitation of three power plants, part of the Dolna Arda hydropower complex. The project, due for handover in October 2010, will have a tentative cost of EUR 49.5 million and is to zoom the complex capacity to 331 MW.

The company has subcontracted Austrias Porr Technobau und Umwelt AG and Bulgarias Risk Engineering to draft the design and perform rehabilitation works at the 60 MW Studen Kladenets hydropower plant. The two companies will receive EUR 15.9 million for the job.

VA TECH Hydro has also been tipped as the builder of Tsankov Kamak hydro-cascade complex.

The facility, worth EUR 220 million, is slated to be operational by 2008, however the company is already five months behind schedule.

The two projects have been assigned under an Austrian-Bulgarian memorandum for understanding and bilateral co-operation to conduct mutual actions on Kyoto Protocol.
