A recent poll by research institute Fessel-GfK-Institutes and data from the Upper Austrian chamber of commerce, show that many Czechs and Slovaks living in the border regions regularly cross the border to go shopping. Clothes, food, sporting goods and footwear are among the most items enjoying the highest demand.

Austrian APA agency said that some 36 per cent of Czechs and every fourth Slovak from these regions spent EUR 50-300 in Austria last year. According to the poll, some 22 per cent of Slovaks and 16 per cent of Czechs spent EUR 300-2,500.

Some 58 per cent of interviewed Slovaks and 27 per cent of Czechs admit that they like shopping in Austria. Some 37 per cent of Slovaks said the product range was broader in Austria.
