Bulgarian copper smelter Assarel Medet and Austrian offshore trading company Voest-Alpine Intertrading will join forces in the take-over of Serbias copper mining and refining complex RTB Bor. Assarel executive director Lachezar Tsotsorkov confirmed the news.

The deadline for submitting bids for the Serbian company is October 30 and Voest-Alpine Intertrading already purchased the tender papers.

"We are especially interested in the open pit mining," Voest-Alpine Intertrading board member Karl Mistlberger said. However, he emphasised that there is no final decision whether the company will participate in the tender.

The Serbian government set the starting price for three units of RTB Bor at USD 266.65 million. The investors will bid for the underground mine in Bor, a surface mine and a flotation unit in Majdanpek as well as a smelting and refining unit.
