Sofia International Airport will have a hot road link to Bulgarias downtown after Bulgarian construction company Moststroy completes the stretch between Sofias Brussels boulevard and the airports new passenger terminal.
The 1.3-km road will cost BGN 8.1 million and is due for completion a year from now. The project is one of the measures needed for the completion of the new airport project in the capital.
The government has taken 66 per cent of the private properties needed for the project.
On Monday, Transport Minister Petar Moutafchiev attended the launch of work on the new road. At the event, he said that the ministry and Austrias Strabag, executive for the airports expansion, have signed an agreement on the handover of the first section of the new terminal.
The Sofia airport will test a new runway between August 3 and 9. The facility should be operational full-time by September.
By the end of the year the second phase of the project should be completed, Moutafchiev said.
The expansion of the Sofia International Airport has a budget of EUR 210 million.
