Metro Cash&Carry wants to expand its activity in the Republic of Moldova and to modernise the older outlets in Romania, stated the companys manager, Francois Oliver. Metro will open two new hypermarkets in the Republic of Moldova, he added.

"We are also responsible for developing the Metro network in Moldova, a business unit of Metro Cash&Carry Romania. We have a store in Chisinau and our target is to open a further two centres in this city," said Oliver, quoted by Ziarul Financiar.

As for plans in Romania, the short-term target is to strengthen the business, and there are no concrete plans to open new stores.

Francois Oliver previously ran Carrefours hypermarket network in Romania. Metro Cash&Carry Romania had revenues of EUR 1.245 billion last year.
